Challenge

As grassroots defenders of constitutional rights, the ACLU of Missouri and the ACLU of Wisconsin rely on compelling visual communication to inspire action, engage donors, and inform the public. Yet, like many non-profits, both organizations faced constraints: limited budgets, lean design resources, and a pressing need for professional-quality creative assets that could elevate their campaigns without straining capacity.

For Missouri, the centennial milestone presented a once-in-a-century opportunity to celebrate impact and rally supporters, demanding campaign visuals that could honor the legacy of liberty while feeling fresh and accessible. While Wisconsin needed branded presentation tools and educational illustrations to both unify their internal communications and spark public dialogue on urgent topics like surveillance technology. Both chapters required solutions that balanced mission-driven storytelling with consistent, professional design, delivered within the practical realities of volunteer-led support.

Solution

I partnered with both state chapters on a pro bono basis at a personal freelance level, providing designs tailored to their unique needs:

ACLU of Missouri:

Developed custom illustrations for their Centennial Celebration campaign, including a postcard and digital assets featuring the Statue of Liberty interwoven with the U.S. Constitution’s Preamble.
Designed a distinctive logo for the Liberty League donor group to encourage recognition and participation.

ACLU of Wisconsin:

Created branded PowerPoint templates to streamline internal and external presentations, ensuring every communication reinforced organizational identity.
Designed a series of original illustrations depicting common public surveillance technologies, used during a town hall to educate citizens on their rights pertaining to the technology, and to help facilitate direct dialogue with policymakers.

These assets not only delivered immediate campaign and communication support but also provided scalable tools the organizations could continue to use. By volunteering my skills, I helped extend the reach of their mission, all without compromising limited resources.
